Welcome to Chili and Fennel

All life experiences taught me that true nutrition is this simple equation. And that, dear readers, is the way we maintain true wellness.

Food + Emotion + Nostalgia + Ritual = Nutrition

About Us

My given name at birth is Rossana De Angelis, but I go by Roxie (mostly because its easier for people to pronounce). Im first generation Italian-Canadian and as person from Italian decent, my love affair with food basically started at birth. However, there was one problem. I was also born with severe IBS (irritable bowel syndrome), which later included an unbearable intolerance to gluten as well. As I got older and began to become more aware of my condition, I became obsessed with food.

Handling your needs with care

I am a workaholic by nature and I put all my energy into banking; which meant long hours, bringing work home, not going out and never eating on time.

Mung Bean Trio

This one is a mung bean trio : mung bean/lentil burger, mung pilaf, a strip of roasted mung beans and fennel seeds.

Always fresh & delicious food

You take out a pan and gently place it on the range while increasing the heat dial to medium. Add a touch of oil, no more than a tablespoon. The oil begins to sizzle and you add one sliced pear. The next ingredient that comes to mind is fennel seeds and a few slices of local grown peaches. Can you smell it? Can you see it? You can hear the sound of the sizzling pan and the tantalizing aroma the food emanates. Sautee it all and lay it on a bed of wilted spinach. Finish it off with sprinkles of lavender. Have a seat, take a moment and enjoy the beautiful dish you've just created. Okay, so you're probably wondering what was all that about? Not only was this a premeditated healthy breakfast that included organic and local food, but it was a ritual; my breakfast ritual. Just the word ritual brings back so many memories. It takes me back to days when I used to own my Bed and Breakfast Hostel in Toronto. Every morning I would cater to my guests with vegan or vegetarian and gluten-free meals. The process of making these breakfasts was meditative and somewhat spiritual.
